dGPU models only for 2016 is most likely Apple early adopter tax, they even halved the SSD space that has been 512Gb standard since 2013 for dGPU models to force early adopters to pay the storage upgrade premium. Do you perhaps have a source on that?Īpple seems to follow the same pattern as with the first year r15, that also only came with dGPU configurations. Still, I seriously doubt they'd ditch the Iris Pro with all the progress they've made in the graphics department in recent years. The Kaby Lake HQ-series haven't been announced yet, which is why Apple went with Skylake. The quad-core HQ-series i7 processors come in two variants, those with HD530 such as the i7-6700HQ in the dGPU 15 and those with Iris Pro 580 such as the i7-6770HQ. They still make them, for Skylake this would be the Iris Pro 580.
